Deadlines Approaching for Summer Latin Course Enrollment

With the 2015-16 academic year coming to a close, the Davenant Latin Institute is gearing up for our summer intensive Introduction to Theological Latin courses which will begin in June. These are designed with the needs of busy seminarians, graduate students, and teachers in mind, offering a chance to rapidly build your language skills during the summer break, so that you can maintain and develop them further during the following academic year with relatively minimal effort. If you’ve been hoping to acquire or build Latin ability for your research or teaching, and have struggled to find time to do so, this is a great opportunity.

We offer two main options this summer. First are our LAT511 and LAT512 Intensive modules, each running for four weeks (June 13th-July 8th, and July 15th-August 12). Taught by our veteran Latin instructor, Ryan Handermann, these courses will make use of the revolutionary new language learning program provided by New Saint Andrews College and BibleMesh. Each is priced at just $480 for four credit-hours worth of language instruction. Students completing LAT512 will be eligible to continue into our Intermediate Theological Latin Reading course this fall, reading texts from Augustine, Aquinas, Calvin, and many more in the original Latin. The deadline to register for LAT511 is just a month away—May 23rd.

For students who want to build their language skills even more quickly and intensively, we offer a two-week residential immersive Latin course (June 9-22) at our beautiful Davenant House facility in the Blue Ridge foothills of South Carolina. Michael Spangler, an experienced Latin instructor at Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, will lead students in ten days of Latin reading, writing, and conversation, including nature walks and group activities in which Latin only will be spoken. See details on the syllabus here. The deadline for this course is coming up even sooner—on May 9th, less than two weeks away!

Some scholarships are available for both courses.
